(No) Spring Chicken!

Colored chicks in Isfahan. Photo from Associated Press; I found it here.
This has been a long and tiring, but exciting day. I am going to bed really late, dreading having to wake up early to attend an early morning meeting. As I get ready to go to bed, I hear Iden and my younger son listening to Modern Talking's Brother Louie in the other room. Oh My God! Talk about a blast from the past! I'm filled with memories of good times past. I think it's sweet that the young people in my house are building their own memories of the song. Who knows? Maybe one night when they are much, much older, as they get ready to go to their beds, passing by their children's rooms, they might hear the song and become suspended in motion with the flood of sweet memories! I smile thinking that thought. Goodnight ya'll.

Dear Nazy.

صد سال به این سال‌ها
Well that is supposed to be my eyd didani
I can't even imagine the feeling you are describing and I think this is one of those things that should be "eaten to be understood" (halvaye tantanani taa nakhori nadani ;))
Some tracks and songs means a lot to me. They are bearing memorabilia of special person or special event....
Things become like an intricate maze when a song convey two anticline feelings and people...
On top of my significant songs, the list is getting longer and longer as I grow older and older, is " Wish you were here" by pink Floyd!

yours
Shobeir
PS. To Masoud: How I like the book...

مرسی نازی عزیزم از نوشتنت در عین خستگی..
همیشه شاد باشی و پرانرژی
با حرف مسعود موافقمدر باره استشمام بوی گذشته در موسیقی...
درست مثل یه سفر به گذشته ها.

Salam Masoud Jan:

I'm glad I didn't disappoint you!

All my life I have lived with music, and so many of my memories are intertwined with notes of some song, some music piece, some melody. My love for music has passed right through to my kids! I constantly find it amusing that they would listen to music I used to listen to when I was their age, though! It's surreal! We listen to the Beatles, The Doors, Marvin Gay, Bob Marley, and Queen together! They are building their memories while I am retriving mine, that's the difference!

Thank you for your as usual thoughtful comment Masoud Jan.

Salam Shobeir jan:

عید تو هم مبارک و صد سال به این سالها و به از این سالها

Thanks for coming to my eid-didani!

Of course you will have to have kids to know what I'm talking about! But I'm sure there are songs that you and parents equally enjoy right now!

I went to a friend's house a couple of weeks ago. A couple had come with their two beautiful daughters in their early twenties. We sat outside around a fire, talking and some people were singing songs. The two girls who had been born and raised in the US and had never been to Iran, decided to sing for the group! They sang "man o gonjeshk-haye khooneh," an old Googoosh song, together! We were so surprised and so delighted to see that they knew all the words and were really enjoying signing it to us, even though with an American accent! They said they had learned to love the old Googoosh songs because their parents listened to them all the time when they were growing up! It was an amazing experience to see them perform it!

Yessssssssssss, Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here" has numerous memories for me and it plays on my heart everytime I hear it, too!

I hope this will be a good year for you and your family, Shobeir Jan. It has been an honor and a pleasure for me to have found your friendship in the past year.

Salam Serendip Jan:

This is a nostalgic picture for all those who have seen the little colored chickies in Iranian bazaars in recent years. In fact, as you know, most spring chickens don't survive, hence the Iranian proverb: "Jooja ro akhar-e paeez mishmoran!" I have no doubt that the artificial coloring can't be good for them, not to mention being handled by children as they are presented in the markets.

Now that I think about it, it may not be a politically correct thing to promote animal cruelty, if that's what these chickies are subjected to! Thanks for making me think, Serendip, as usual!

Oh, man, that was some 1980s flashback, huh? I have never heard of the singer or the song...so much for me! But the content of your post was so dear. It's the truth. Robert Louis Stevenson, Scottish poet and author of many famous books, wrote a poem that reminds me of what you wrote tonight. I will type it here from memory. I used to be unable to get through reciting it without tears in my eyes and a catch in my voice. I am getting better at the accepting these days...Zan Amrikai

As from the house your mother sees
You playing round the garden trees
So you may see, if you look
Through the pages of this book,
Another child, far, far away
And in another garden play.
But do not think you can at all,
By knocking on that window call
That child to hear you.
He intent is all on his play business bent.
He does not see, he will not look,
Nor yet be lured out of this book.
For long ago, the truth to say,
He has grown up and gone away.
And it is but a child of air
That lingers in the garden there.

Zan-e-Amrikai Jan:

Hello and welcome back! I hope you have had a relaxing Easter/Nowrooz holiday my friend! Yes, I did get your kind emails and your Nowrooz card. I was delighted to see your photos! You are simply beautiful, like a movie star! I will reply to your emails, I promise. The task is so overbearing because of the sheer number of emails, but I'm going to get to it and do your thoughtful words their due justice.

Thank you so very much for sharing that poem with me. I had never heard it before, and reading it and imagining you reading it loudly and from memory, gave me goosebumps!

You rock, my friend! I hope the new year brings you all that you deserve, and takes away any anguish you might have in your life.
