Slowing Down, Maybe

Interviewing Loris Tjeknavorian, Sunday March 9, 2008 in Berkeley. Photo by Jahanshah Javid.
My body has decided to put the emergency breaks on me! I woke up in the middle of night with a colitis attack and will now have to slow down my breakneck speed. I'm O.K., but will have to keep a slower pace for a while. This would be somewhat hard to accomplish, because of several writing pieces I have in different stages of development, Nowrooz just around the corner, my dear guests arriving soon, and getting ready for hosting my friends for a dinner party soon. We'll see.
I will write excerpts from Simin Behbahani's beautiful speech here. The woman is so wise and so brave, and of course a priceless poet. Let me know if you want to see more, and I will write more of her moving speech here.
"I am but a poet, one among the many; undoubtedly, a small fish, in the ocean that is the world. By profession, I have been a teacher; and I well know there are teachers and philosophers in this world much, much worthier than I in their wisdom and knowledge to offer any advice.
But my heart tells me, you, too, must say something. Let them laugh at you, let them call you mad, or even try to kill you. Nothing is left wanting your life to wory about it so much. So, I declare: the world is a wreck; the Middle East the greatest wreck; and religion the excuse for creating this wreck."

From Simin Behbahani's acceptance speech at Stanford's Bita Award Ceremony, March 11, 2008.

If I feel better tomorrow, I will go to see Mehrjui's Santuri in Berkeley and will tell you about it (Thursday, March 13th at 5, 7, & 9 p.m. at Oaks Theater, 1875 Solano Ave, Berkeley). Have a good Thursday you all.

I hope you feel better soon. Although I do not recommend Santoori I like to know what you think of it; Santoori is by far the worst of Mehrjui film that I have ever seen. I think the movie became the source of attraction because it was band in Iran and now every one is crazy about it regardless of its cinematic values. Mehrjui is famous for his smooth découpage and clean shots which Santoori lacks in most part. I will write you more after you see the film.

Salam Farideh Joon:

Thank you so much for coming again. Simin Behbahani is a truly remarkable women. She had a really hard time reading her speech, and ad-libbed through most of the speech which we had in our programs in print. She filled silences with jokes and poetry and really wonderful anecdotes. She is so brave, too, which I absolutely adore about her.

Yes, I am taking it easy, I promise! I really am. I'll come and read you again soon.

Salam Serendip!

Alas despite your good wishes, until today none of my days were uneventful and relaxing! But starting last night, I am working on it! Already I feel a lot better, thank you. You are so kind to me, as usual. I will write you an email soon to ask you a question, Serendip! Take care.

Salam Tameshk Jan:

When is that flight? Come on!

I react to movies, much as I react to everything else (!) on a very emotional and personal level. You are the expert on film and when you talk, I listen very carefully. Perhaps you could visit the post about the movie again and see what others whose opinions vastly differs from mine have to say about it, and help us out a bit!

Love you girl. My best to Hossein.

Salam Daisy Jan:

You are so sweet! I have the best friends in the world! People are so good to me, they continually put me to shame. My problem seems to be stress and exhaustion. I think solitude would work better for those. I took it easy today and will continue on that path tomorrow. Hopefully I will start the new week with more energy and things will be back to normal again soon.

You are lovely, Daisy Jan. Thank you.

Salam Soshiyans Jan:

Thank you so much for coming back my friend. Yes, Tjeknavorian is a national gem. I am so touched by him because he is such a good Iranian. I have seen him on stage and he has the ability to charm and mesmerize his audience.

My interview with him revolves around his very personal views on love and women. He is very philosophical about both subjects and I hope to be able to convey his sentiments accurately.

Have you heard his "Love Songs?" That is the album he wanted me to hear before I wrote my piece and I obliged. It's truly beautiful.

Have a good day dear Soshiyans.

Salam Ahmad Jan:

Yes, siree! I'm doing it, taking it easy, I promise!

Hee Hee, it's a strange picture, in that my friend took it without a flash in a poorly-lit environment. There are others in the series which I absolutely adore, except I don't know how to use them! I don't usually put up my likeness (ha ha!) on my blogs, but this one was fuzzy enough to do! Trust me, by not seeing my likeness, you aren't missing much!

Thanks for coming back Ahmad Jan. Are you over your cold yet? Take care my friend.
