Scattered Thoughts on My 200th Post

  1. By tomorrow morning, my family will start leaving. No more about that subject.
  2. Projects at work are taking a good shape and it feels good to get some long-standing commitments off my desk. I will also be learning some new project management software, and I’m excited about that.
  3. My Persian Poetry class starts in Berkeley tonight, but I will miss the first class. I am so excited about starting next week. I will tell you about it in more detail soon.
  4. Does anyone know whether Akbar Ganji will have any lectures in Berkeley soon?
  5. I have finally finished my sad short story. I cried and worked on it, and it is finally finished. You will see it soon (I leave you no choice, do I?).
  6. I am such a fortunate woman! I have interviewed someone really fabulous, and this weekend I will start transcribing my notes and writing that piece. I hope I can do the extraordinary story of this man’s life justice in putting it into writing. You can help me by telling me whether you think I should put it into a “story format” which is my preferred style of writing, or this time I should keep it in the “interview format,” which is more formal and therefore more serious. Your opinion is so important to me.
  7. I will resume going to the Kiarostami movies this weekend, after everyone has left and my weekends go back to their boring shape! Of course this weekend we are celebrating a very special blogger’s birthday, and we will probably have a little more fun that usual.
  8. I am feeding my family our “goodbye dinner” tonight. We will have hamburgers and barbequed vegetables, as everyone is a little tired of all the serious food they have eaten over the past two weeks! I must run now to go prepare that dinner.

I'm ready to read your story, is it going to be published here or do I have to actually buy the book? you know I'm esfahanian :)

as for number 6 I personally want to read interviews in the original style (its just my preference)

what dish are you making for your family tonight, I'm actually cooking tonight too, "Sicilian Steak" which is a dish from south of Italy :) but no family YET :)

Salam Siamak Jan. It will be a short story that hopefully will be published on Iranian.com. It will be free like all my writing! In a year or so, when I write an actual book, most people will hopefully buy it, but I'm sure something can be done at the time for starving students!

Thanks for answering my question about style. I will have to disengage the "storyteller" in myself in order to write it in interview style.

We had hamburgers and salads, nothing as extravagant as steaks! I hope you soon have your family around you, and that you can eat your meals surrounded by those who really love you. Everything tastes better when spiced with love! Be good Siah.

Salam Serendip Jan: Yes, I did see the sweet post of the kitty in a bonnet! My heart just melted remembering my cat who now lives in Karaj. Kittens are so cute. Too bad they don't stay that cute and helpless, turning all too quickly into the independent snobs that cats are! They have us wrapped around their little fingers no matter how big or small they are. Thank you so very much for the generous gesture Serendip. You are a good egg.

So, Dear Anonymous: Did you just forget to sign your comment, or are you really an anonymous? Either way it's fine. It's just that I can't reply to an anonymous by saying: "Come along!" Yes, I am planning on having a fun weekend celebrating a friend's birthday, thank you!

Hello,

Congradulations for your 200th post. I got to know your blog by chance few days ago and now I am a frequent visitor of your blog. I find your posts very interesting. One resean is that it gives chance to know about thoughts and life of an older generation Iranina living abroad. keep up the goof work...

Dear Farshid:

Thank you for coming by and my gratitude for your comment. I am glad you like reading my posts, knowing that you meant the "older generation Iranian" bit as a compliment, right!? Your observation is astute and true. Next year it will mark the end of the third decade of my presence in the US, and I should hope that I have learned a thing or two during that time!

It is pure pleasure knowing that I am finding new audiences, and hopefully keeping my older ones, as I have learned much from the people who come to visit me, either in knowledge or in heart. Come back again soon Farshid Jan. I'd like to think that my virtual home, just like my real home, is always open to friends who can stop by, have a cold "sharbat" or a cup of "Chai-e-debsh," rest, smile, and go. Take care.

Mehran Jan, you crack me up! Thank you for putting us all in our respective places, Ala Hazrat Jan! That Bayram thinks just because he is getting older, he can gain power over you! I know better, however! Be good Mehran.

I AM SORRY THAT THEY ARE LEAVING YOU, BUT I HOPE THAT YOU ARE ALL BACK TOGETHER IN ONE SPOT SOON...

I PREFER STORY FORMAT, BECAUSE YOU DO IT SOOOO WELL. NO OFFENSE TO WHO IT IS YOU ARE INTERVIEWING, BUT I WOULD RATHER HEAR YOUR TAKE ON SOMEONE ELSE THAN WHO EVER THE PERSON IS (I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET MY THOUGHTS INTO WORDS---I MEAN: WHEN YOU WRITE, THE LITTLE COMMENTS YOU MAKE AND WORDS YOU USE...IT'S MORE INTERESTING TO ME)!

HAVE A GREAT EVENING WITH THE FAMILY!!!

Assal Jan: Thanks for your good wishes and thank you for your input. The person at the center of the story has had such an interesting and stellar life, whichever way we put his story together, it will shine and sparkle. Be good azize delam.
