Watching Two Artists

Backstage at Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam's performance tonigt. Iranian music master, Mahmoud Zolfonoon is warmly received by the dancer.

Mersedeh had made an appointment to go see Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam backstage to photograph him for a piece she is doing for Peyk. I tagged along and met him in person. He was delightful and warm, different from his dancer persona on stage, and the articulate and at times arrogant artist who answered questions after the performance. It was a fabulous performance and I want to tell you about it. It is, however, quite late and I will have to be up early in the morning. So I leave you this picture, and I will do my report tomorrow. My ears are filled with beautiful Persian poetry and music. My eyes are happy at the feast of beautiful choreography and delivery of Moshkin Ghalam and his Nakissa Dance Company. It was worth the wait.

Nazy Jan,

It is 3:40am and you just left to catch the few and precious remaining hours of sleep left of this whirlwind of a weekend, before facing yet another week of work. I am sitting here in your chair and in your corner taking in the memories of the last couple of days feeling sad at the realization that it has all come to pass too quickly. Tonight's performance has knocked my senses out of sync so please forgive me as I struggle to describe how or what I feel.

Two days ago, you were simply a sweet friend in cyber-space that I was looking forward to meeting. Tonight, however, I sit in your sanctuary feeling small compared to this enormous space you occupy. I am truly grateful at destiny for bringing us together and grateful to you for genuinely opening the doors of your home and your heart to me. I now know you as my friend, my adoptive aunt, and a ray of sunlight that I could learn a great deal from.

I hope we will have the chance to come together again real soon and continue what we started. Thank you for a sensational weekend!

Love,

Mersedeh

Mersedeh Jan: You are so very welcome my dear. The pleasure has been all mine. I am continually amazed and impressed by the young, intelligent generation of Iranians worldwide, each of whom are active volunteers in their communities, involved in matters pertaining to Iranian state of affairs, literature, and arts. You are a breath of fresh air my dear. I am honored to know you "up close and personal" now. Have a good week.

Mehran Jan: It was indeed a memorable evening. I took notes to write a post about the event! Go ahead, tease me, but when I am the only one who writes a post that makes sense about the performance, you will eat your heart out!

Salam bar Ehsan! Where have you been? You should have been there! I went with Mersedeh, Mehran, Tameshk (Roja) and her husband to meet up with my friends Nazy and Jahanshah. It was an enjoyable time. Be good Ehsan Jan.
