Morghe Sahar

Young masters Mohammad Reza Lotfi, Hengameh Akhavan, and Bijan Kamkar play the timeless Iranian gem of a song.

I am off for the three-day weekend, entertaining long awaited relatives, cooking, and eating with my family, something that is more of a novelty for me these days. I'm around, so time permitting, I will come and check in. I leave you with a song this Friday. It is one of the hundreds of renditions of the timeless gem of an Iranian song, Morghe Sahar (bird of dawn). No matter who sings it and plays it, on a stage, on a CD, in a home and by masters or amateurs, this is a song I love to hear, never getting tired of it. As the song was written for Ghamarolmolook Vaziri by Maestro Morteza Neidavood, I believe it is best sung by a woman.

I hope you all have a good weekend, full of joy and peace. Take a romantic walk in a peaceful place (yes, you can take a romantic walk by yourself, too! Cite poetry to yourself, that's how!), and don't forget to take any chance to tell those in your life that you love them. Be good y'all.

The first time i heard this song was in Ali Hatami's HezAr-dastAn on Iranian TV. It was an elderly actor singing it, and i fell for the song right there. Nice pick Nazy Jan.

Dear Amazing Serendip: I hope all is well with your health and your spirit my friend. I have missed you so much! I come around and check you out daily (some days 10 times, like I say!). I'm glad you liked this song. It is beautiful. Mohammad Reza Shajarian's rendition of this song is masterful, but I think the most sensitive performance of this song by a man (and my traditional music loving friends would kill me for this!) is the one done by Farhad (Mehrad) on his guitar. It makes my heart leap everytime I hear it. Let me know if you would like to hear it and I will ask the boys to help me send it to you.

Be good my deep friend.

Jeerjeerak Jan: Thanks for sharing your sentiment about it. I think all Iranians have their own relationship with this song.

Ali Hatami (khoda biamorz) did such a fabulous job with Hezar Dastan, the series. Everything about it was so perfect. The music for the series was amazing too. Do you ever listen to Maestro Morteza Hannaneh's "Hezar Dastan" collection?

You probably know that it took Hannaneh two years of work to produce that album between 1985 and 1987. He used the original theme and melody from Morteza Neidavood and developed it into what is now considered the most known and cherished Iranian film music ever.

You know what Jeer Jan? I am so glad you reminded me of that piece of music! I'm going to go listen to it right now! That beautiful, larger than life, and sweet music, written and developed by Hannaneh during one of the darkest and saddest times of recent history in Iran, where Iran was being bombed daily and music like this helped allay the fears and sadnesses in people, even if for just a little while. Thanks Jeer!

Hee Hee Hee, Shobeir! That's not nice! I listened to it, and it really wasn't that bad! I have heard worse, believe me. For one thing, I hold that I sing the worst Morghe Sahar in the world myself! Singing it badly does not stop me from singing it, though. This song lives in my heart, and occasionally it runs to my lips to be sung! I think that's why the guy on the clip is singing it, too--the notes have escaped his heart and have made it to his lips!

Be good azizam and come again my 82% friend.

Siah Jan: How have you been? And more importantly, where have you been? I hope you are well and happy my friend. Thanks for the smiley face. I will take a smiley face over silence anyday Siah!

Come again. (Even a "." will do!)

Nedaye Aziz, Banoo Jan, Salam.

Welcome to my home. Thank you for reading me. I came by and visited your blog. Very interesting, full of thought and feeling. I will go and read some more soon. Come back anytime and talk to us. Mine is not "the hottest blog in the world!", but it is one I maintain with love and attention to my world. People who come to read me, I would like to think, see that love and many of them return it in kind, leaving me thought provoking and interesting comments. I'm glad you are joining us. Be good azizam.

P.S. I can't help but be amused Neda Jan. You are an engineer! It is a mystery to me how most of my friends and now my readers, are engineers! I am not one myself, I'll have you know.

P.P.S. I love the photograph in your blog masthead! Very clever.

Salam Universal Dimension:

Thank you for the correction! You are right. Farsi typing is a hard thing for me to do, as I don't have Farsi fonts, and this was my typing error.

Can you elaborate on why you were surprised with this post? Be good.

In the spirit of your advice: Nazy Joon: I love you!

Nazy Jan,
Is it possible to share that piece of music?

Wonderful Assal: Thank you my friend. And I love you right back! I was talking about you with Sis tonight, telling her what a remarkable young woman you are. Be good and shine and sparkle Assal.

Salam Jeer Jan. Of course, here's the link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=QEIC3tl3UFc , and while in Youtube, try searching for "Morghe Sahar" and you will get many many choices.

There is a Tar School in our area, run by Ashkan Ghafouri (http://www.tarschool.com/) . Their class final project is a group performance of Morghe Sahar, where everybody plays and sings this song together. It is so heartwarming to hear it played like that. Be good Jeer Jan.

jeerjeerak said...

Nazy joonam, Actually i meant the Hannaneh piece you talked about, the one from HezarDastan.

Nazy said...

Jeer Jan, Please forgive my denseness! So, o.k. This is what you can do. You will have to go to http://iranianmp3s.com/ and register as a user. Very very easy. Then you can listen to that album or any tracks thereof here:

http://iranianmp3s.com/home/e107_plugins/mp3/album_694_1709_Morteza_Hanane_Hezar_Dastan_Music_Matneh_Film.php

You can also buy the album at most Iranian music shops online, just type in Hannaneh or Hezar Dastan.

Be good Azizam!
