Wisdom On The Road

Where else in the world would you see such a prominent sign on the road, giving you advice about life? I believe that instead of trying to be what we once were and will never be again in the history, as Iranians we should try to appreciate the things that still exist and display our 3,000-year history. One of those things is wisdom in daily life, which Iranians have to a fault, passed through the generations. Let's get over other ironies of this picture and for a moment appreciate the practical wisdom of Iran and Iranians (there might also be some sense of humor in this pircture, but don't get distracted by it! This post is about Iranian wisdom.). Photo by Fariba Mobargheie; http://www.iranian.com/Travelers/2007/May/Shomal/index.html

Nice!

It reminded me of the wisdom on Starbucks Coffee Cups!

Haha! That's right, Tameshk! How are you? Are you free of your exams and work? I have certainly missed you my friend. Thanks for coming to visit. Come again.

Bayram Jan:

You are so right, and that's why I referred to "ironies" in the picture. Having a sign giving advice to people in the middle of the winding Shomal roads is hardly encouraging the drivers to concentrate! My point was more about the essence of the idea. This phrase, or similar phrases, poetry, and short stories, are such an important part of Iranian identity. In fact, you might hear such a phrase quite easily in a classroom, a conference room, a taxi cab, or a family gathering and from old people, young people, and peers, because this wisdom is a part of the daily dialogue and routine of our people, like code words everyone understands, so when it shows up in the middle of the road, too, nobody thinks there is anything out of place. That was my point. Hala F i l t e r hasti ya na?
