Artsy Afternoon

I went to San Francisco yesterday afternoon. I had taken someone to meet Arash Sobhani for an interview. We went with Jahanshah, who was taking pictures. This picture is not by him, though. It is by Shadi Yousefian. Arash is such a sweet and warm person, approachable and not pretentious at all. I am glad he pursues his professional career as an architect in addition to his musical activities. The Kiosk will be a part of a performance on Friday, December 7th at 7:00 p.m., at San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts. My very good friend, Hamed Nikpay, will also be performing that night, and I am really looking forward to attending, if I can manage my life!
While those guys did their interview, we went into Cafe Trieste in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood (601 Vallejo Street). (Photo by Jahanshah Javid)
Full of life and excitement, Cafe Trieste is said to have been "the first place for Espresso on the West Coast back in the 50's." A Piano player played beautiful music for us, full of emotion and dramatic presentation.
After running around like a crazy lunatic for days, fighting a scratchy throat and what feels like an emerging massive cold, it was relaxing to wind down and be engulfed in San Francisco's Sunday afternoon scene in the company of friends.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your time in the city. To me San Francisco had this cozy warm feel that you handsomely captured in your pictures here in this post.

Take good care of yourself. Eat lot of citrus and take some Echinacea. And of course; if i'm to go through the hassle of Lamingtons once again, it would be only for you Nazy joonam:)

Salam Jeerjeerak Jan: Next time you come, you should allow me to take you into the City. Lamingtons sound fabulous, but I would rather sit with you and shoot the breeze, instead of baking! We will get Mehran and Bayram and Leva bring the baked goods as they did for my dessert table!

Salam Massoud Jan:

The key is to enjoy life wherever we go and wherever we live. I lived in Iran for many years until recently. Life was a full year of celebrations and family traditions for me, celebrating Christmas and New Year's with my friends and family, side by side of Nowrooz, Yalda, and religeous eid's. Yes, life is beautiful, very beautiful.

P.S. Whereabouts are you? In Iran? Tell us something about yourself if you feel comfortable to share. It's O.K. if you don't, too. I am just naturally fozool! Be happy Massoud Jan.

Neda Joonam: I so wished you could be here, too. We already have a deal, you and I. When I come to Tehran you will take me to coffee shops, and when you come here, I'll take you and show you around! Jat khali bood azizam.

Assal Joonam, I agree on the Kiosk subject! Yes, I am very very lucky. I continue to fight the cold, so it hasn't yet taken over. Did you go shopping on Black Friday? I missed the whole thing! Come on, fess up! What did you buy?

Thank you Massoud Jan. You said a lot about yourself, and I am aware that you didn't say a whole lot more!

I love Khuzestan. Ahvaz is a beautiful city, home to everyone's Karoun. I only have vague memories of Masjed-e-Soleiman, which I visited when I was very young. All of Iran is beautiful, but there are places where I made beautiful memories and Ahvaz was one of them. Well, not all my memories of Ahvaz are beautiful. Believe it or not, the day the "cultural revolution" happened, where Jondi Shapur University was a battleground for a huge struggle, I was in Ahvaz visiting my sister, having just returned from the US. I remember it so vividly, as it was a very frightening day. I made up for those darker memories when I went to Ahvaz a couple of years ago, appreciating the beauty and warmth of Ahvazi's again. Thank you for sharing. My best to your family.
